The city of Bourgas with its population of 196 316 is the second largest city on the Black Sea coast. Popular sights of Bourgas are : the Art Gallery, the Sea Garden Park, the St. st. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral, the Philharmonic, the Opera, the theatre of Drama. Also the lakes surrounding the city and the salt mines. There are a lot of museums in Bourgas. The city has plenty of hotels, many private lodgings and there are two camp sites not far from it.The Bourgas airport is open throughout the whole year for domestic and international flights. It now rivals Varna to the north as the nation's chief port, claiming much of Bulgaria's Black Sea trade. With the small neighbouring port of Sozopol, Burgas also handles most of the Bulgarian fish catch. Food processing (flour, sugar, and fish), engineering, and oil refining augment its port activities; copper, lignite, and salt are mined locally. Burgas, Neseb?r, Pomorie, and Sozopol formpart of the developing Black Sea Riviera. Pop. (1986 est.) 182,570.
